What is a Cyber Attack?

There are many different kinds of cyber attacks that hackers will use to try do many problematic things. A few cyber attacks include malware, phishing, man-in-the-middle attacks, and denial-of-service attacks. It is important to learn about these so you know how to stop them.

Malware

Malware is a common attack that uses malicious software that breaches your computer. Malware is usually installed when the user clicks on a suspicious link or dangerous email. Once downloaded, malware can automatically install a harmful software, steal information, or disrupt the system. Those are just a few of the many capabilities of malware.

Phishing

Phishing uses impersonation to pretend to be a offical email or message. For example, scammers could use phishing to pretend to be your bank and ask for information. Phishing can be very harmful to those who aren't aware of it.

Man-In-the-Middle Attack

The man-in-the-middle attack (MitM) is when a third party enters a two person transaction or trade. That way, the third person who is eavesdropping can steal information. A common eavesdropping practice includes using public wifi to monitors people's online activity.

Denial-of-Service Attack.

Denial-of-Service Attacks overrun a system's bandwith by flooding it with traffic. The result of this attack is a complete impediment of a server or system. An example of this type of attack is when a group called Lizard Squad broke the PlayStation Network on Christmas in 2014, which blocked everyone from using it.
